Teaching your dog obedience and providing daily structure is always good for your dogs well-being but so is allowing them to let loose and play! Play teaches dogs proper ways to communicate, builds social connections and bonds, provides a great workout, relieves stress and it’s fun. It’s always important to monitor dog on dog play closely…so pay attention! Give plenty of breaks, interrupt anything inappropriate or too rough, advocate for anyone that seems overwhelmed or not interested and interject routinely to prevent any escalation or over
stimulation. It’s also important to match play styles, size of dog and energy. Dogs play best in pairs and play should be mutual with role reversals. You chase me. I chase you! Not all dogs like to play with other dogs. Not all have compatible play styles. Some just enjoy one or two friends. Most outgrow it. And some prefer human play interaction instead. Which is all perfectly normal dog behaviour.
